Hello, my name is Gjeneve. I have been a professional fiber artist for 50 years.
I was born into a fiber intensive Norwegian heritage in Northwestern Minnesota. My
family tree is filled with women who lived long lives sewing, knitting, and crocheting
beautiful works of art. I often say that I must have been born with a needle in my
hand as I have b
een doing handwork or sewing as long as I can remember.
Visiting family in Colorado I was drawn to the rugged beauty and colorful landscape
and eventually moved out here. Not happy with my attempts at traditional quilting,
I moved into the realm of art quilts and fiber art. The colors here have influenced
my choice of colors. As I dye more of my own fabric and experiment with color, I
find that my choices are gradually broadening to include more of the strong earth
tones.
I have been fortunate to have been exposed to many national and international teachers
who have brought new techniques, many of which I am starting to incorporate into
my work. Each day is a new learning experience that is exciting and extremely fun.
